Frequently Asked Questions:
What is Skills Assessments Day?
Skills Assessments for players in Grades 3-8. Coaches will run players through drills to evaluate skill level. These evaluations are used to determine team placement. ALL PLAYERS in grades 3-8 will be placed on a house league team. This is not a tryout.
How Do Coaches Select House League Teams?
Following Assessments, the coaches gather together and "draft" players to their teams. Coaches are looking for balanced teams across all grade levels. Coaches will communicate with you no later than Sunday night with your team assignment.
NOTE: We do not accept requests for friends or classmates to be on the same team, nor can we accommodate requests for players to be placed on a specific team. Siblings will be placed on the same team if they are in the same division.
What is the Pee Wee Program?
Pee Wee Players (Grades K, 1 & 2) do not have assessments. The first day of Pee Wees is in December. Please arrive early as practice will begin promptly at 9. Pee Wee sessions are held on Saturdays for 10 weeks.
Travel Teams
Housatonic Basketball participates in the Berkshire County Basketball League, made up of teams from all the towns in Berkshire County. In the past, we have offered Girls Division: Grades 3/4, 5/6 & 7/8 and Boys Division: Grades 3/4, 56 & 7/8.
Travel teams are a special commitment that is made in addition to participation in House League. All travel players are required to play in House League. The travel league consists of games and tournaments both during the week and on the weekends; coaches will specify the level of commitment during the tryouts in order to help you determine if travel teams are the right choice for your player and your family. Travel team players are expected to attend all practices and games.
